11 nautical miles south of Anholt the wreck of the German submarine U-251 was located back in 1976.

This is what Aage wrote in his Log about the discovery:

LogU251

“We were seven divers who found the wreck in July 1976 on 32 meters of water south of Anholt. The wreck stood there right up on the seabed. The back of the tower had fallen apart and the starboard tank had been shot at. The forward torpedo hatch was open. We managed to salvage the compass from the tower and the top of the periscope. On a later dive on the submarine we entered the forward torpedo room only to find the toilet door blocking further entrance. In the wreck was found leatherjackets with German markings and the year M.1941. In the tower furthermore a lightgun in noncorrosive steel was found.

The actual intention was to raise the submarine, but because of different opinions about how to split the goods, the project was cancelled. The Navy has blocked entrance to the wreck by filling bags of cement in the tower and the forward hatch.
Under the stern a bomb on aprox 250 kg from an Aircraft was found.”
